After asking your advice about digital SLR camera preferences, I still wasn't convinced about which brand was for me. Then I was referred to a VERY helpful blog post (here) which compared Nikon to Canon and I decided on the Canon EOS Rebel T1I. I'm SO glad I waited so long to get this. Canon just came out with a digital SLR that also has video capabilities and it was just released last month. WOO HOO!
That is when the hunt began for the lowest price. There are so many accessories that are both extremely helpful and extremely useless (depending on the complexity of the pictures taken by the user) for SLR cameras. But at the end of the day, the package deals seemed like the way to go.
Believe it or not, we ended up buying it on eBay from a camera store in New York. I got a battery and charger, extra memory, a camera bag, a flash, a 55mm lens, a telephoto lens, a wide angle lens, a UV filter, 2 tripods...the list goes on and on. Free shipping, no tax, can't beat it! And it was much less than $1000, all said and done. Bonus!
I would still love a 200mm lens, but I'm sure I could hold off until Christmas for that. One thing at a time, right?

YEa for your fun, new camera. That is just one thing we can't get at a yard sale, but a splurge that is so worth it. We got the Canon xsi REbel at Christmas. I still don't know how to use it but have plans to one day figure it out. :)Good thing it's great on autoshoot. :)
That is great news Katie! I'm still scared of those fancy cameras, but my FIL has that one and loves it.

Yay Katie! You are kicking butt on your 101 list. Can't wait for you to figure out your camera and share with me - I'm thinking (hoping) by year's end I will have figured out the one I think is right for me.
I am so jealous! Well, half jealous - I bought the Canon EOS Rebel Xsi about 4 weeks ago - I had no idea they had come out with one with video, I would have waited another week! What a great deal you go.
