I love my crock pot. Minimal prep, maximum flavor. But I can't tell you how many times I've looked on my meal plan to see what I need to start prepping for dinner and realized that I didn't start my crock pot early enough!
The irony of it all is that I generally plan crock pot meals for my busier days/evenings.
I came up with a plan and it's working beautifully. I'm now in the habit of looking at my dinner plan the day before and filling my crock pot before going to bed. I stick it in the fridge and pull it out in the morning to start cooking.
No more undercooked pot roast around here!
Want a bonus pot roast tip? Coat the roast with flour before putting it in the crock pot and the sauce will thicken into a gravy by the end of the day. YUM!

Two peas in a pod, girl! I live by my crock pot, too. The grocery stores here will take 35% off fresh meats on their sell-by dates, so I'll buy whatever's on sale that day (chicken breasts, ground beef, pork chops, etc) and then throw them in the crock pot on low overnight. Cooking while sleeping? The ultimate in multi-tasking! :-)
Then I portion out the cooked meat into vacuum-seal freezer bags and write on them what recipe each is for. I also do this for dried beans....so much cheaper than the canned ones, and less environmental waste with the packaging!
Anyway, I know you know and do all these things too, I'm just on a morning ramble. I will take a moment to give my crock pot an extra little snuggle today. :-)

I love my crock pot! But I did the same thing yesterday-I was planning on cooking a ham and totally forgot about it till early afternoon and it needed to cook for eight hours so its on the menu for today now :) I did still make a wonderful tater tot chicken bacon cheese meal in the crock pot because it only took around three hours to cook :)

My MIL taught me to spread ketchup as well as flour on top of the roast before putting in the crock pot. Her great aunt taught her this trick when she was young. I was not so sure about this at first, but after trying it I am a firm believer. It makes all the difference in the world!
I do that all the time! I love your tip...definitely going to try it next time!
