Day 10: The Play Room/Kids Toys/Game Room

Even though I feel like I just made-over the kids' playroom, that was many months ago.  And, in reality, this room is completely destroyed and disorganized each and every week, so maybe every couple of months it IS a good idea to go through and put everything back where it should go...?

I solicited Ryan to help me with today's assignment for the Spring Cleaning Challenge and he was all over it.  He loves things neat and orderly, just like his mama.

Everything was picked up when we began, but with so many kids in and out of our house, everything was not where it was intended to belong. Stuffed animals were in the ball bin, movies were missing from their cases (I blame Jason for this), Legos were thrown everywhere...we just picked a corner of the room and got to it.

I filled a whole storage bin with toys and movies for a garage sale someday.  I also replaced batteries in toys and put other items out of reach, until the kids need something fresh to play with.

Before - The cubbies and ball/stuffed animal baskets.
After - Doesn't look much different, but trust me...it is!
Before - A wide view of the playroom closet.  This was taken before I cleaned my bedroom and before I moved the shoe shelves downstairs.
This is how I repurposed the shoe shelves from my bedroom.  It was Ryan's idea to use them for dress up clothes and I realized how perfect they would be for ALL of our dress up hats and masks!
Before - taken today, just before I got started.
After - I relocated the movies out of Jason's reach, checking each case for the correct DVD.  I also cleared out some items for the garage sale bin.
Before - The toy bins (a huge dumping ground)
After - a little more organized, but I'm not OCD about these bins
Even if you don't have the luxury of a whole playroom, your kids likely have tons of toys and games.  If you don't have kids with toys (or kids at all), take this day to go through your own personal games and media.  I'm sure you have old board games that haven't been touched in years, let alone tons of movies and CDs to purge.  Those items go quickly at garage sales.  Just sayin'...

Please feel free to post before and after pictures (or just after, if your "before" pics are too embarrassing) and link up below...

How did you do the tags on the bins in the cubicle? I made some and attached them with Velcro, but the baby loves to pull them off!

@Lindsay - my canvas cubby bins have handles, so I took a picture, put clear contact paper over it, punched a hole and tied it onto the handle with a ribbon.

If your bins don't have handles, what I did for the bins in the closet was to take a picture and cut the clear contact paper about an inch and a half larger than the picture (on all 4 sides), using it to "stick" the picture to the bin. You might be able to see what I mean looking closely at the red, blue, yellow and green buckets in the closet pictures.

Is that helpful???

I mean this in the nicest, least sour-grapes kind of way......

Please take a moment each day to consider yourself lucky to have a play room for your kids, no matter how much of a hassle it may seem to clean/organize. Over on this side of the pond most of my friends and I have bedroom about 2/3 the size of Ryan or Kaylin's rooms (and ours has 2 children in it), and the 'play room' is also known as the living room, which is also known as the dining room. None of these have any closets because closets aren't done here, so you only have whatever free-standing wardrobes or cabinets you buy yourself....and fit into the limited space.

While I love having fewer rooms to clean, it's a challenge not getting claustrophobic stepping around childrens' toys 24/7 because there is literally not another room (or closet) in the house to put them in. Really, you're lucky!
