My house is quiet. The little kids are napping and Ryan is in his room for an hour of "quiet time." All is still...
Just a minute ago, I ran downstairs to refill my water before putting myself down for a nap. (WHY did I stay up until midnight last night!?!?)
One look around my kitchen made me cringe. Dishes were scattered everywhere. Crumbs (from the kids making their own sandwiches for lunch) covered the counter. Smushed cracker crumbs littered the floor. Trash was sprinkled all over: produce stickers from apples, cut up pieces from this morning's paper craft, wrappers from snacktime, even a wrapped up wet diaper sat next to (but not IN) the trash can. (okay, that last one was my fault)
Seeing everything in disarray like that made me shut down and want to go upstairs and hide. But, in the spirit of my new "set the timer for an hour" Saturday morning ritual, I gave myself five minutes to pick up as much as possible.

In five minutes, I:
- Piled the plates, cups and silverware into the sink
- Threw away every piece of trash I could find
- Wiped down the counters and kitchen table with a wet sponge
- Quickly ran the vacuum over the floors
- Tossed dirty washclothes and dish towels into the laundry room
- Put the phone on the charger
- Returned shoes to the hall closet
- Grabbed a couple of things to put away on my way back upstairs
With the exception of the sink-ful of dishes, my kitchen is no longer a disaster.
And it only took five minutes. I'm doing the five minute quick clean more often! But for now, I'm off to take a much-needed nap...

Nice! I've tried that before as well - it's amazing what you can accomplish in such a short amount of time isn't it? Makes me wonder why I want to put it off so much!
I totally get it!
The mess. The clean up. The wanting to hide. The five minutes.
Totally.
I think we've all been there. I like the idea of 5 minutes thought you can get a lot done and feel better afterwards.
