Tuesday's Time Saving {Pic Printing} Tip

Being a scrapbooker, I print a LOT of pictures. Not to mention that I'm doing Project 365, taking a picture day for 2009 plus journaling about it.
.
To stay organized with what needs to be printed for my scrapbooks, I write down all of the pictures I want to use for a particular event/layout, write them in my spiral notebook, then check them off once they've been ordered. (I posted about more of my scrapbooking tips a few months back: click here if you're interested) But I recently figured out an even MORE efficient way to print my pictures.
.
I have a tendency to wait for the online printing sites (Shutterfly, Snapfish, Winkflash, Artscow, etc.) to have "free print" or "free shipping" types of offers before ordering my pictures. And those deals usually come in sets of 25 or 50 prints. That's a lot of pictures, right? And there's usually an order-by deadline of a day or two. I'm embarrassed to admit how many nights I'm online until 11:00 selecting, uploading, cropping and ordering pictures before the midnight deadline. Why put myself through that kind of stress for a $10 savings???
.
I finally established a "Pictures To Be Printed" folder within my "Pictures" folder on my computer. When I know which pictures I want to print, I copy them into the "To Be Printed" folder so that I can quickly upload them onto the website when it's time to print them. Whether it's a cute picture of the kids that I want to print for the grandparents, pictures to scrapbook or a 5x7 that I want to frame in the family room, it goes in the folder. (sometimes renamed, "print as 5x7" or something so I remember) Once the pictures are ordered, they go to an "Ordered" folder, and after they arrive, they are deleted from the "Ordered" folder completely, since they are all copies of the original picture.
.
This may seem like unnecessary work for some of you, but for the number of pictures I print and the possibility of accidentally ordering duplicates, this system works like a dream!

LOL. I too spend many a (late) evening finishing a photobook.

This is a great tip!! And I try and practice it too, so the last time they had a great 30% of photobooks sale, I had the photobook waiting in my cart for weeks ahead.

Then I searched for other coupons, and ended up with free shipping and a bunch of prints and some greeting cards too!!

Yep, I wait to the last minute uploading those photos for a great deal too! Maybe I can get myself organized enough to do this.

I do the 'specific folder on the computer' thing too, even for blogging. You're right, it's soooooo much faster having everything in one place!

Now, if only I could get motivated to photo album (I don't 'scrapbook', I 'photo album') more than once every two years, maybe it wouldn't take me a week at time to do it! :-)

I think we must be mind twins. I have the following files: to file, to print, to blog, and to facebook. So I just dump things in there and find them super fast when I need them!! Glad I'm not the only one :)
