In our house, Mike and I recently began challenging ourselves to express gratitude to each other and the kids at least twice a day (for each person). Your brain chemistry changes when you break the cycle of complaining and begin expressing appreciation to those around you.
A while back, I found a package of 30 paper acorns at the Dollar Tree. They were in the teacher's section, but I figured I could use them for something.
Last week, I found the PERFECT use for them!
I created a "thankful wall" on our pantry door. Every day, each of us (including the kids) write something that we're thankful for on a acorn and tape it on the door.

It's a great exercise in appreciating the little things. I may even keep the acorns to read next year or when the kids are older...we'll see. I just love that everyone is focusing on gratitude as we enter the Christmas season!

I loooovvvveeee this Katie. The acorns is such a cute and fun idea. We do our leaves every year so it's nice to see something different. So happy that your sharing this idea and taking the time to show each other every day. It's my favorite thing to do in the fall. As one of my thankfuls the other day was for the new blogs I have found and that inspire me. So thank you Katie for all your daily inpirations for us.
I LOVE THIS!!!! WONDERFUL IDEA! What a fantastic way to raise your children to have a thankful heart (and to remind you to be thankful everyday!) I truly agree with your statement about your brain chemistry changing when you express appreciation. My mood totally changes when I find myself being more thankful each day rather than complaining about everything!
Thanks to you!
beautiful idea!!!
