I learned the BEST tip a couple of weeks ago and I keep forgetting to share. Do you ever boil-over on your stove? Pasta water? Oatmeal? Rice?
No more! Place a wooden spoon across the top of the pot and it will stop the liquid at the rim. In my attempt to multi-task, I tend to boil my pots overboard a LOT. Nothing annoys me more than oatmeal boiled over and baked onto my stovetop. Never again.

Really? That works??? I need to Google the science behind this, because it want to know what makes this happen!
My worst issue is dried beans boiling over, especially black beans, which makes the most horrendous purple mess on the stove. Unfortunately, I just did my most recent batch of beans (minor miracle they didn't spill over this time), but I have a bag of chickpeas/garbanzo beans that needs cooking. I'll let you know how it goes!
