For the Spring Cleaning Challenge today, your assignment is to clean out and organize your front hall or entryway.
Some people (like me) have very simple entryways. My front door immediately opens into my dining room and living room, so it's not an ideal space for backpack hooks or coat racks. I would LOVE to eventually have a giant entryway organizational system (like this one from Pottery Barn) with hooks and cubbies and a place for the kids to sit and put on their shoes, but that's not happening anytime this century.
Others have a front hall that is highly functional and potentially very cluttered. Even small front hall tables can be a catch-all for overflowing arms coming into the house.
Make your front hall work for you. If it's a high traffic area or the main entrance/exit for your family, make sure it's a functional space while being a peaceful, welcoming first sight for your friends and guests when they visit your home.
We primarily use our back hall and garage door in our family, but recently, our kids have been playing with neighbor friends a lot. Their shoes were across the house, so I gathered slip-on shoes and flip flops to keep by our front door in a basket. Granted, the basket isn't gorgeous (it was nice when I bought it, but has held shoes on the back patio for too long) but it works for this purpose.

The picture below is our front hall table. I use it primarily for decoration, not functionality. Some guests dump their keys or purses there, but for the most part, it just looks pretty, occasionally holding a seasonal candy dish or items that need to be returned to a neighbor friend.
