Kaylin. Oh, sweet Kaylin. Why do you love to color so???
A couple of weeks ago, this was my Picture of the Day:

In case you don't see it, that's red ink scribbled all over her legs. Somehow, she snuck a pen or two into her room during naptime. When I noticed the pen on her ankles (she was wearing pants that day), I asked, "Kaylin, where do we use pens and markers?" "On paper..." was her correct answer. "Where do we use pencils and crayons?" "On paper..." "Then WHY did you write all over yourself?" (pause) "I dunno..."
Kids!
Then she took her pants off to play dress up and I saw the full magnitude of her lower body art. I was trying to be positive: "at least it wasn't on the walls." HA! I should have looked around more. That was before I found this clock in her room...

Then a few days later, I noticed the wall by her bed...

And today, her bedspread...

(Update: I JUST FOUND HER NAME ON HER BEDROOM DOOR. I told her to come clean and show me anywhere else she wrote with pen and she insists that I've found them all. GRRRR...)

I can't really do anything beyond feeling frustrated because I truly believe these offenses were all on the same day. I can't be 100% sure, but I know Kaylin pretty well. I doubt she'd do this repeatedly so soon after being caught with pen marks on her legs.
Any advice for getting ink out of a bedspread after it's been absorbing for 11 days???

See this post from Kristin over at LuBird Baby. She can relate and has some tips: http://lubirdbaby.blogspot.com/2009/10/terrible-twos.html
Oy...No advice, but I still remember a time, only a couple months after Ethan was born, when Elliot colored with a pen all over his baby scrapbook. The outside was hand-stiched, which my mom had to completely remake for me. The inside pages all had to be redone too. I was NOT happy with her!
Soak the bedspread in cold water and Oxyclean. I have been able to get out everything by doing that. I even got melted, non-washable crayon stains out after the clothing had been washed and dried!
I'd suggest spraying it with Shout Advanced, then soaking it in Oxyclean. That usually works for me. Also, those Tide Stain Remover tabs you throw in the wash are awesome, so you could do the triple-whamy for good measure.
I wonder if this is an age thing, as my daughter, Sydney, is just on 4 and she does the write on anything but paper every once in awhile. Her body seems to be a popular choice. One thing that's helped is getting bath crayons - it gives her another chance and medium to write on. Then I give her baking soda and a washcloth to "erase" the writing - so the tub gets a clean at the same time!
My mom has always told me to use hairspray on ink stains!! Don't know why and I've never tried it, but what could it hurt??
Hairspray gets out ink! Spray it on, wait, wash and voila! Test it on a scrap cloth if you're unsure. Works like a charm. A zillion (ok, 2 zillion) years ago I used to use that to get out ink in shirt pockets all the time. Back when shirts had pockets. And geeky men would put pens in them.
You should pick a wall in her room that you would allow to be a canvas. She can draw on it all she wants but she has to agree to not draw on any other non-paper items! I've seen this done before and the "canvas" actually ends up creating a lot of memories. When the wall gets filled up you can paint over it, and she can go at it again. If she is a budding artist, by the time she is a teenager you will have a an outright mural on your hands! Just a thought!
Elly and Kaylin must think up these things and discuss them at Preschool! I JUST found red pen all over Elly's body, carpet, and wall TOO!!!! And that was AFTER I found the "erasable" marker, which, by the way, is not erasable on a sheet. I tried everything (except hairspray...that will be next), and it didn't come out, let me know what you find, if anything, that works!
Ditto on the hairspray thing. I've done it a bizillion times and never been disappointed. It may take a while, and you may have to 'spray and blot' a number of times, but you shouldn't be let down. And if you don't own hairspray (like me), go ahead and invest in the cheapest bottle you can find. The nasty old 'Aqua Net' has always been a good laundry friend to me. (ahhhh, Aqua Net. your hot pink and screaming blue bottles were always there for me at dance recital times. oh, the memories...)
Good luck!
Yep...hairspray. : )
