"I like being a family man."

These are the words that came out of Mike's mouth on Monday night.
.
To set the scene, he rushed in the house in his gym clothes, racing to jump in the shower to meet a friend at a sports bar to watch the Arizona Cardinals on Monday Night Football. It was a last minute invitation, so my homemade bread baking in the oven and the reheated homemade soup from my freezer stash would only be enjoyed by me and the kids. I could have been bummed, but he rarely makes plans during the week.
.
The kitchen that he passes through smelled like heaven (bread), looked like it was hit by a tornado (crafts everywhere) and I was still in my PJs from the night before. I had a list of errands to run, but a "Mom, can I paint?" comment changed all of my daily plans and we never made it out of the house.
.
When I told Mike this, he said, "So you really ARE a stay-at-home mom!" (because I didn't leave the house - which is rare for me) Not to mention that I looked awful (which he thought was adorable for some reason) and the house was a wreck. (we could barely eat at the table, it was so covered with craft supplies - as was every surface in the whole kitchen)
.
Anyway, this was followed by a cancellation of the sports bar, an invitation to have our friends over to watch the game here, then a cancellation of that get together. All within 10 minutes. So once he realized he didn't have to shower and could relax with his wife, kids and new baby with a homemade dinner, his face lit up and he announced, "I really do like being a family man."
.
My husband doesn't make comments like that. Clearly he was on an endorphin high from the gym!
